Summer Finale

resortrocksugar-cm-7

FRAME denim, Zara tank, AllSaints coat, Tabitha Simmons pumps, Givenchy bag, Celine sunnies, Nixon watch, Vita Fede bracelets and rings

So kids, after yesterday’s post, I suppose its appropriate to start talking fall wardrobes. This ensemble represents my first dalliance with fall. I’m sticking with white because, well, I can. As far as coats go, this sleeveless one is pretty much useless, but also oddly perfect for this transitional phase between the last days of summer and proper autumn.

From the Heart:
Ok, Fall

resortrocksugar-gd-8

I hate to say it, but after combing the blogs this weekend for inspiration, I’m a tiny, tiny bit excited for fall. Mostly not, but there is something to be said about fall shoes. I’m a summer lover for life, but I do hate sandals, so I’m excited for booties and loafers and all kinds of the closed-toe variety. And I love the transition between summer and fall because you can still dress light and just add a few fall touches like pumps and thin jackets. So yeah, fall you will never have my heart since you steal summer from me, but we can be friends. I guess.

The Every Occasion Romper

resortrocksugar-white-1

Spell & the Gypsy Collective romper, Rebecca Minkoff bag, Zara heels, Nixon watch, Vita Fede bracelets and rings

This romper first made an appearance over my Zimmermann bikini at Coachella, but has been a go-to through spring and now summer. I’ve worn it with Chanel espadrilles for a casual day in Venice beach, with heels (like here) for dinner at the French Laundry in Yountville, and with booties for a summer evening picnic. I’m thinking I can bring it with me into fall with a plaid shirt tied around the waist. So basically, I refuse to retire it.

On Versatility

resortrocksugarstr-6

Helmut Lang blazer, One Teaspoon shorts, shirt from Anthropologie, Givenchy bag, Tabitha Simmons heels, Mercer Harp necklace, Ray-Ban sunnies

Versatility is key when creating a solid wardrobe and this outfit is inspired by the concept. Black blazer that can be thrown over pretty much anything? Check. Black and white striped shirt that can be worn with jeans, white pants, shorts, a leather skirt, black leggings? Check. Classic black bag that will never go out of style? Check. And for the California (or Australian) girl – a trusted pair of denim cutoffs! Then you add your pops to take your basic outfit to anything but basic – a brilliant red necklace, show-stopping aviators, and to die for heels! But back to the basics – imagine the endless combinations.

Overall Obsession

resortrocksugaroveralls-8

FRAME overalls, Zara tank, AllSaints pumps, Free People bra, Givenchy bag, Pamela Love cuff, Vita Fede bracelets

Recently, I had dinner at the French Laundry in Napa with a fabulous group of friends who were crazy about food. When the chef came out, a non-foodie like myself assumed Brad Pitt was in the courtyard based on the reaction of my company. It was most amusing and definitely a learning experience to be dining at one of the best restaurants in the world with people who have an intense appreciation for good food. And while I don’t share that appreciation and am quite unsophisticated when it comes to my taste buds, it made me realize that you are lucky in life if you have something that makes you that happy. I do. And in fact, just before leaving for Napa, I made a quick stop at Intermix and fell truly, madly, deeply in love with these FRAME Denim overalls. I didn’t give them a second thought — I knew that they had to belong to me. Though some people might think my obsession with clothes makes me shallow and materialistic, I say its no different that one person’s obsession with basketball or another’s obsession with dogs. I heart clothes. And these overalls – new lover!!
