Trusted and True

Brandy Melville top, Paige jeans, Jeffrey Campbell shoes, Rebecca Minkoff clutch, Tom Binns earrings, bracelets and rings by Ioselliani, Low Luv x Erin Wasson, and Brandy Melville

It’s entirely possible that I’ve managed to incorporate everything I love into this one outfit: heavy metal details (as I’ve previously discussed here) like zippers, a chain bag strap, and my super gnarly metal cap toe pumps; a few too many bracelets and rings; a bold and not-so-shy nail color; crosses and skulls; a Rebecca Minkoff clutch that fits no more than the bare necessities (iPhone, credit cards, ID, and lip gloss); and a tribute to California, the best state in the Union.

Love Story

Zara shirt, shorts, and shoes; J Crew bag; Ray-Ban sunnies; Aldo earrings; J Crew and Low Luv x Erin Wasson bracelets.

In case you haven’t noticed, I have an unhealthy (for my wallet) addiction to sunglasses. I never set out with the intention to buy a pair. My relationship always begins with “let me just try them on.” And secretly I’m hoping they are all wrong for my face. And sometimes they are all wrong. But when they are all right, they are too good to be true. Such is the story with these Ray-Ban’s. I saw them in a case at Club Monaco. Sunnies safely tucked away in a case are usually the kind I can resist, because they require extra effort to try on. But these beauties were just too amazing to ignore. And so the story goes…

Choupette

For people like me, who have a profound appreciation and respect for the talent behind the major fashion houses (and even the not so major ones), any opportunity to discover the intimate details of these fashion designers lives is infinitely welcome. And of all the designers I admire, my thirst for information is the greatest for Mr. Lagerfeld. Even if you ignore Chanel’s reputation as a brand, and focus entirely on the presentations (every season he seems to transform the Grand Palais into something deliciously brilliant) it is abundantly clear that Mr. Lagerfeld is a true artist. Of similar interest to me, and maybe to many of you too, is the who and what and where that provides the inspiration for the art. In the case of fashion, the who is usually the designer’s muse.

Last month, W magazine featured an article on Karl Lagerfeld, his past muses, and his muse of the moment — his kitten, Choupette. The article was intelligent, entertaining, and almost a little melancholy. My favorite part: a former muse offering this tidbit of information about the current muse– when Karl sends text messages to her, he signs them “Your Choupette.” I wonder if Choupette has any idea how lucky she is!

You can read the entire article here. Trust me, its worth 20 minutes of your time. xoxo
