From the Closet:
The Repeats Remixed

resortrocksugar-flash-1

IRO romper, Rails shirt, Rebecca Minkoff bag, Topshop hat, Vince shoes

Lately I’ve been having that problem when after digging through everything in my closet, I conclude I have nothing to wear. Which is obviously not true at all. This outfit, though, is a combination of all the things I have on repeat – black romper, plaid shirt, fabulous hat. I can’t get enough of them, so maybe my problem isn’t that I have nothing to wear, its just that I keep wanting to wear the same few items over and over and over again.

From the Heart:
On Expectations

resortrocksugar-bk-5

Once upon a time, I had a very dear friend (ok, my ex-boyfriend, the ex-boyfriend), who would see me upset about something that didn’t happen, and remind me to manage my expectations. While I was leaps and bounds ahead of him in maturity, occasionally he had me beat on insight. Expectation is truly the root of much sadness, disappointment, frustration, and heartbreak. I’ve learned that the hard way as I still am not an expert on managing mine. Whats most tragic to me is that I have to. If we only lived in a world where we could expect the most of everyone, all the time, expect the most of life, all the time — there would be no expectations to manage. On the bright side, though, if you do learn to get your expectations in check, every now and then someone or something or just life will throw you a bone and it will be a brilliant, unexpected surprise that you didn’t anticipate. But still….

Red Minimalism

resortrocksugar-red-1

Helmut Lang dress, Zara heels, Givenchy bag, Stella McCartney sunnies, Vita Fede bracelets

When I was a little girl, I spent a lot of time thinking about favorite colors, and the conclusion I reached after over analyzing such a simple topic was that to each person, there is a color that just completes everything – without it, things seem drab and boring and incomplete. For me, that color was, and has always been, red. I think back to when I was younger and pretending to be an artist – my paintings and drawings, even if completely busy, were always empty and incomplete until I added red. As an adult, I don’t wear red very often, but when I do, I’m reminded why its my color. This Helmut Lang dress does red good – its minimalist in a way that doesn’t scream anything because red does all the screaming on its own.

From the Heart:
After Labor Day

resortrocksugar-ld-14

I don’t believe in rules – especially rules that dictate what I can wear and when I can wear it. So I definitely don’t believe in the no white after Labor Day rule. White is an essential color in every wardrobe and there is absolutely no sound basis for excluding it after some arbitrary date. I believe in white for weddings that are not your own, so I definitely believe in white for every other occasion in life, no matter what time of year. So Labor Day, bring on the white.

Summer Finale

resortrocksugar-cm-7

FRAME denim, Zara tank, AllSaints coat, Tabitha Simmons pumps, Givenchy bag, Celine sunnies, Nixon watch, Vita Fede bracelets and rings

So kids, after yesterday’s post, I suppose its appropriate to start talking fall wardrobes. This ensemble represents my first dalliance with fall. I’m sticking with white because, well, I can. As far as coats go, this sleeveless one is pretty much useless, but also oddly perfect for this transitional phase between the last days of summer and proper autumn.
